Unlike embroidery, where thread is stitched on top of fabric, a woven patch is the fabric. Thin threads are interlaced on a loom so the design is built into the weave. Because the threads are much finer, woven patches reproduce small text, thin lines and complex artwork with impressive clarity.
Woven patches are flatter and more flexible than embroidered ones, so they sit comfortably on lightweight shirts, hats and performance wear. They are also popular as premium brand labels and for designs where the full surface should be covered with detail.
Because the weave is uniform, woven patches have a smooth, matte-to-satin finish rather than raised texture. If you want the best of both, we can quote an embroidered border around a woven center.
When to choose woven over embroidered
Choose woven when your design includes fine lettering (such as unit mottos or long organization names), detailed seals you are authorized to reproduce, or thin outlines. Choose embroidered when you want raised texture and a bold, classic look.

Materials
Fine polyester damask threads woven on a high-density loom, with optional heat-sealed or merrowed edges.
Size guidance
Woven patches are excellent from 1 inch up to about 4 inches. They allow text down to roughly 1/8 inch tall depending on the font, which makes them ideal for small chest patches and labels.
Quantities & pricing
Minimum order is 10 patches per design. Woven patches are often an economical choice for larger runs of detailed designs.
Artwork recommendations
Fine details are welcome — send vector artwork if possible. Woven patches use a limited number of thread colors per design, so tell us your priority colors and we will advise if any need to be combined.

Are woven patches as durable as embroidered patches?
Yes. Woven patches are very durable and launder well. They are thinner, so they feel lighter, but the tight weave resists fraying and fading.
How many colors can a woven patch have?
Woven patches typically support up to about 12 thread colors in one design. If your artwork has more, we will suggest close combinations in your proof.
Can woven patches have raised texture?
Woven patches are flat by design. For raised texture, choose embroidery, or ask for a hybrid with an embroidered border and woven center.
